Day 5 Erasmus + Volos, Greece

Image
Sunday was one of the best days as we travelled to a UNESCO World Heritage site and spent the day together as an Erasmus group.  The monasteries of Meteora We had a 2 hour journey to Meteora nestled in the mountains north of Volos. The rock formations host six eastern orthodox monasteries that overlook the town below. These impressive sites are now protected by the UNESCO. It is truly one of the most magnificent places I have ever visited. The views were incredible and the link with religion made it a very peaceful place to be. We had lunch together in a nearby restaurant where all students and teachers were together. The day was by far the most interesting in terms of visits and views and gave our students time to spend with all the Erasmus students as they have made great friendships.  We donated clothes and shoes to the centre for the young people. As part of our day we visited a home for young people who are mostly without family and are considered Lo

This weekend blog was written by our students. Our students have been outstanding and we are so proud of them. They have represented Stantonbury eloquently and I know that all our partners cannot wait to visit our school in Milton Keynes. Get ready for the visit in 2021. In the meantime, please read and if anyone would like to be involved, come to the Erasmus Club Thursdays after school.   Zoha: Today was a long day but we got to see beautiful scenery. We started our day by going to a Refugee house which was located at the top of a mountain. The young people were from Afghanistan, Syria, Bangladesh and Pakistan. We were able to find out more about the support given to Refugees in Greece and many of the challenges they face.  The journey from Volos was about 45 minutes. When we first arrived to the Refugee house the manager of the  house explained everything about the people living there and their   history Some of the stories were that the people had to swim across seas to get

Today was a busy day in school. When the students arrived, they were  in lessons and then we all met to read our stories of equality.    From Stantonbury, Mr Berwick and Ms Devlin worked on the stories in lessons which were then read by our visiting students here in Greece. Our project is collaborative. Not only are the objectives met while abroad but they are disseminated and produced across the school in lessons so that all students are included and have an opportunity to share their experiences and contribute.  We spent much of the day working on the discussion of the project as teachers while the students were in lessons but we did take time to participate in the National remembrance day of the fall of the dictatorship which took place on July 23 1974 and it is remembered today for the uprising on this day in 1973. On Wednesday 14th of November at noon students protested and were gathering around the Technical University of Athens. The protests were against the Junta of

Our day started in school with our students arriving in their uniform to a flood of interest and questions about their attire and what all the logos and pins mean. They were complimented on their uniform and the girls were very proud to wear them and tell the Greek students and teachers about it.  All foreign students were taking photos of our students in their uniform- They were like celebrities! Maisie, Zoha and Cassidy presented on Stantonbury to the Greek students. They spoke confidently and were very proud to share our school values which subsequently became the main focus of a drama activity which took place later in them morning. Both Cassidy and Zoha introduced themselves in Mandarin while Maisie spoke in German. There was a teacher's coordinators meeting where we discussed the dissemination of the project, eTwinning and our future visits. School here starts at 8:00 am and finishes early afternoon. Students performed drama pieces about bullying and dis
