Day 4 Erasmus Saturday in Volos area

This weekend blog was written by our students. Our students have been outstanding and we are so proud of them. They have represented Stantonbury eloquently and I know that all our partners cannot wait to visit our school in Milton Keynes. Get ready for the visit in 2021. In the meantime, please read and if anyone would like to be involved, come to the Erasmus Club Thursdays after school.

Zoha: Today was a long day but we got to see beautiful scenery. We started our day by going to a Refugee house which was located at the top of a mountain. The young people were from Afghanistan, Syria, Bangladesh and Pakistan. We were able to find out more about the support given to Refugees in Greece and many of the challenges they face.  The journey from Volos was about 45 minutes. When we first arrived to the Refugee house the manager of the  house explained everything about the people living there and their  history Some of the stories were that the people had to swim across seas to get to Greece because they were unsafe in their countries. Unfortunately, some people also died during the journey as they drowned. The stories were very sad and it showed us the reality of the despair that some people face when trying to escape their country for a better life. We had a tour of where they reside. We then ate some snacks that the people there made and just relaxed while looking at the view. I ate a chocolate crepe. There was people aged 12-18 there and it was a boys camp. After that, we had a little break to eat and relax. Cassidy, Maisie me and the Spanish children and some Greek children went to a café and just chilled for a bit afterwards. Next we went to a village on the mountain. The view was stunning. So beautiful. When we got there we were allowed to go and explore. We and the Spanish and Greek children first ate a Greek speciality: Souvlaki. It is like a big wrap. It has Chips in it, any meat if you choose, salad and different sauces and is wrapped up in pita bread. It was delicious. Near there there were a few shops so after eating we went there to buy souvenirs... Finally, the day was over and we headed back to the coach. It was around 5:30pm and the sky was ruby red so the scene from up there was so pretty. I will never forget this day.

Today was extremely fun! We travelled all the way up one of Volos’s mountains! There were many beautiful houses that we saw on the way, even if the heights  scared us slightly. When we made it to the village, we went to see a refugee centre , one for young immigrants from countries like Pakistan, Afghanistan and others!
They told us all about what the place was about and what it did, and they took us for a tour around the house. After, we tasted some food they made and went on our way. We got on the coach and were given a bit of free time to explore the village. Zoha, Maisie , hosts and I went to a cafe to have a dink before lunch. We stayed there for about half an hour until we got on the coach again to another village on the hill. We were given another hour of free time to explore. We went to eat first, and we got Souvlaki, a delicious Greek dish made its pita bread, various ingredients and then all wrapped together.

I had this dish with chicken, a special sauce, onion and chips!

After this, we went shopping for a few souvenirs and got back on the coach.

The coach ride home was unsettling because we had to drive in the dark, with cliffs on the side of the road, but we made it home ok!

Today was my favourite day by far!
